SUPERVISOR – COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAM

Job Description

1.0 General Description

1.1 The Supervisor is directly responsible to the Executive Director of Kanaweyimik.

1.2 The Supervisor is responsible for supervising the Community Based Workers from the Prevention Program.

1.3 The Supervisor will comply with provisions of the Kanaweyimik Personnel Manual as it exists from time to time.

2.0 Duties Related to Supervision

2.1 Provide direct supervision and guidance to Community Based staff.

3.0 Duties Related to Administration

3.1 Carries out the intent and purpose of the Kanaweyimik Personnel Manual as it exists from time to time and may make recommendations for the revision/amendment of Personnel Manual as required.

3.2 Ensures consistent application of the Personnel Manual, Administration Policy Manual.

3.3 Ensure all reporting requirements are met for child protection matters.

3.4 Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure effective delivery of programs and services; and case management.

3.5 Make recommendations on policy, case management, financial and personnel matters as they relate to programs and services.

3.6 Authorize such leave, annual leave, overtime, travel expenses and confirm work attendance for all community based staff;

3.7 Attend and participate in all management meetings as scheduled.

3.8 Schedule, facilitate and document- weekly community based staff meetings.

4.0 Duties Related to Finance

4.1 Monitor community based expenditures throughout the year and ensure that the approved budget expenditures are followed.  Report any over expenditures to the Executive Director.

4.2 Bring any expenditure not in approved annual budget to the attention of the Executive Director for approval.

4.3 Approve requisitions for cheques from Community Based Program as per approved annual budget.

4.4 Ensure that financial reporting requirements are adhered to.  

4.5 In the absence of the Executive Director, ensure that funding discrepancies are addressed with funding sources, mainly Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).

5.0 Duties Related to Liaison

5.1 Represent Kanaweyimik as and when required at local, provincial and federal levels.

5.2 Initiate and maintain good working relationships with local, provincial and federal officials of other agencies and/or groups who are involved with the funding of Kanaweyimik.

5.3 Prepare and present information on Kanaweyimik programs and services to local, provincial and federal agencies, involved with First Nations.

5.4 Attend Inter-agency meetings in each of the First Nation communities as scheduled.

6.0 Qualifications

6.1 The qualifications of the Supervisor- Community Based Program shall be determined in the absolute discretion of the Board of Directors depending upon the needs of Kanaweyimik Child & Family Services at the time.  The following attributes are assets:

6.2 A University Degree from a School of Social Work and/or Business Administration or equivalent work experience and training in a related area with relevant courses or workshops in child protection and administration.

6.3 Extensive working experience and proven ability to work in the social services area with families and children.

6.4 Extensive administrative and management experience.

6.5 Ability to organize, delegate, supervise and coordinate activities of staff members and complex programs.

6.6 Ability to formulate budgets, administer same and report on budgets.

6.7 Extensive working experience with First Nations people, with an understanding of the particular issues encountered by First Nations people.

6.8 Extensive working experience and a clear understanding of the dynamics of First Nations family systems; complexity of social problems encountered by First Nations families.

6.9 Extensive working experience with different levels of government associated with program and service delivery to First Nations.  Local, First Nations, provincial and federal levels of government.

6.10 Knowledge of the Cree language is an asset.

6.11 Computer skills are a postition requirement.

6.12 A clear criminal records check and vulnerable sectors check must be presented at interview.

6.13  Must provide 3 professional references; and further agree to a global reference check.

6.14 Must have a valid Saskatchewan driver's licence and must provide a driver’s abstract.
